The renown of the craftsmen of Tržič
In 1492 Tržič officially became a market town which meant it gained the right to hold fairs on a weekly basis. The trading route over the Ljubelj pass, the wealth of water sources, and timber and land cultivation and livestock farming around Tržič, enabled the development of numerous trades on the basis of which industry developed.
Blacksmiths, leather tanners. Shoemakers and butchers all had their own guilds while the sock-makers worked in a fraternity. They sold their products throughout Carniola, Styria, Carinthia and Primorska while some of their raw materials came from other continents.
