Memorial Room of Vojteh Kurnik
Vojteh Kurnik, a well-known poet from Tržič, patriot and collector of proverbs, was born on 9 August 1826 into the Rôdar family in Tržič, in the house which is named after him. One of the rooms in Kurnikova hiša presents his life and work.
They used to live differently from how we live nowadays.
Kurnikova hiša was built in the second half of the 18th century. Inside we can see how people lived at the end of the 19th century and in the first half of the 20th century. In the small, old bedroom you can see the furniture, in the “black kitchen” you can see the tools used by people for baking bread, and in the “white kitchen” various dishes and cooking utensils.
People spent most of their time in the hiša – the central part of the house. It was there that they worked, socialised, ate, celebrated, and the furniture was adapted for all these purposes.
